Care from medical staff is always good as it was on this occasion. Similarly, the reception staff are a pleasure to deal with, always respectful, supportive and as helpful as can be within the system. The appointments system is however broken. Aspects of it are there for purpose. Some specifics: Integrated care: Need an improvement today. Works well. My family, across practices, have used it 4 or 5 times and always good. Ongoing care: Ideally with same doctor e.g my blood pressure review triggered by the practice, not me. Not acceptable. Appointment only become available at a specific time on a specific day for a week 3 weeks ahead. Life means not everyone can ring with the margin. Soon all gone and have to wait another week. This could go on forever!

My mum (age 95) had been to see the nurse due to her cellulitis. She had a plaster on her leg where she had knocked her shin. Unfortunately the nurse took it off and replaced it with another type of plastic covering to which she is allergic. The wound got worse and she now has had to have it bandaged for many weeks from her knee to her foot, though the wound is now drying up. However last week the bandage was tight and she wasn’t comfortable leading up to a very painful weekend when her foot was hurting and her ankle was sore. When the bandage came off, she had furrows on her leg where the bandage had dug in and a wound on the back of her ankle where it had broken the skin. Mum didn’t want another bandage on but was told that it was the only choice as the other option was the plastic dressing which causes the allergy. My mother was upset afterwards and is intending to take a fabric plaster with her next week so she doesn’t have to have the bandage. She finds it very uncomfortable.
